We're not just an organization, we're a passionate community on a mission: to eradicate hunger and ignite hope for children and families in Mityana, Uganda. Since 2019, we've gone beyond providing meals, building sustainable solutions that tackle the root causes of hunger and poverty. Every child deserves a joyful, healthy life, regardless of their circumstances. That's why we empower families, invest in education and community development, and witness the blossoming of brighter futures – brighter than any sunflower field.
We pluck vulnerable children from the shadows of despair in Uganda's rural hearts, not just to offer shelter, but to ignite their inner dazzle. Through nourishing food, warm clothes, quality education, and loving care, we build safe havens where hearts heal and futures bloom. We don't just provide a home, we nurture seeds of potential, watching them blossom into radiant lives brimming with possibility.
In 2019, Brother Ssentumbwe Ronald witnessed the heartbreaking reality of Ugandan orphans facing danger and despair due to HIV/AIDS and COVID-19. Inspired by compassion and faith, Joseph Kaweesi and Mawanda Andrew opened their own home to these vulnerable children. Driven by the dream of providing a permanent haven, they embarked on a mission to raise funds for land. Through unwavering faith and community support, their prayers were answered, and the Godwin Charity Foundation was born. Today, Godwin Charity Foundation is a beacon of hope for over 50 children. We offer a safe space, nourishing meals, access to quality education, and vital medical care. We empower these children through skills training and mentorship, equipping them for a brighter future.
Serving Orphans Worldwide travels to every part of the country to ensure needs are legitimate and 100% of funds distributed goes to the livelihood of the children. Life is extremely difficult for children who have been orphaned in Uganda. Uganda shares the issues that all of the other countries in that region face. In addition to extreme poverty and high incidences of malaria and AIDS, there is the ever-looming history of conflict in this part of Africa. The country has experienced hardship in the past as thousands of children left their families to avoid abduction and recruitment into the Lord’s Resistance Army, acquiring for themselves the title of “Night Commuters.” Despite Uganda’s history and extreme improvements over the years, Uganda still faces an orphan crisis. There is still an estimated 3.5 million children in Uganda who were orphaned due to either AIDS or violence.
These children, at no fault of their own, face discrimination and are often marginalized because of the culture’s stigma that blames AIDS orphans of committing witchcraft or sorcery. Many live in extreme poverty, and as a result, many children are abandoned or are forced to work. Orphaned and abandoned children are extremely vulnerable to dangers such as trafficking, child labor, and abuse. These children rely on homes such as Godwin Charity Foundation for immediate relief from the harsh realities they would otherwise face.
In addition to our Christian faith, the following Core Values guide the Foundation Serving Orphans
Countrywide:
COMPASSION.
GRACE.
God’s radical grace to us in the forgiveness of sins calls us to deal with our brothers and sisters with the same forgiving and gracious spirit. Our goal is not to work with perfect people. It is to meet partners where they are, accept the reality of their circumstances, and give generously to better the care of children everywhere.INTEGRITY.
As an organization, we highly value transparency and openness. We hope to create systems that steward God’s gifts well. We stand by our promises. We keep our word. And, we hold our Partners accountable in doing the same.EXCELLENCE.
When it comes to children, “good enough” is not the goal. While we recognize that flawed people and flawed systems may keep us from perfect solutions, we commit to strive for excellence in our work as a foundation . While we may make mistakes, as all people do, we promise to always have the best interest of the children in mind.FAMILY.
Our end goal is not to see every orphaned child cared for in an orphanage setting. While we serve this purpose for a time, our vision is to see every child in a loving family. God designed the family and therefore it is the best solution to the global orphan crisis. Our goal is to meet children where they are, in hopes of eventually helping them to become part of a loving family
